Barely There Bands

Sad to report that both Mystery Dick and Pestrepeller have ceased musical activities, although that’s not to say you’ve heard the last of us, as there’s a substantial backlog of recorded material worthy of being made public. You could hear excerpts from two as-yet-unreleased albums - Pestrepeller’s Alphabet of Daggers and Mystery Dick’s Single Angel - on radio recently.

The tracks featured in the weekly Resonance 104.4 FM comics programme, Strip, the theme of this edition being “Stand Up Comics: Music and Performance by Small Press Artists and Writers”. You can hear it now: part 1 and part 2 (we’re in part 2). The show was compiled and presented by Gemma Cantlow, editor of Layby Perk, and also featured recordings by folks such as Daniel Locke, Sylvie Wynn and Steven Tillotson.

Aswolf artwork by Savage PencilThe Pestrepeller / My Cat is An Alien split album - Aswolf / Solar Anarchy - appears to be stuck in limbo, having been afflicated by fire and flood during its journey to the outside world. In theory, it's a vinyl picture disc (limited edition of 500) featuring mind-bending artwork by Savage Pencil and Robert Opalio.

Pestrepeller's next solo project, Alphabet of Daggers, is complete and in search of a sponsor.

Isle of Dark MagickPestrepeller's most recent full-length CD, Isle of Dark Magick, is available on Important Records.

From the press release: "Prepare yourself for this gem of free-improvised-found-sound-collage enriched with dark pagan folky vibes and supernatural horror noise dedicated to HP Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith and Austin Osman Spare!" Read more.

Pestrepeller's wild cover of 'Noises for the Leg' is included on the 'Noises for the Limb' CD, a tribute to the Bonzo Dog Band (limited edition of 499, now available on the Wood Records website). An epic 20+ minute version of 'the Leg' may also see the light one day.
